The Parks and Recreation Department oversees more than 1010 acres of city parks, Shawnee Town 1929 Museum, the Civic Centre and the City’s two state of the art aquatic facilities. We also offer over 500 classes, programs and special events for youth, adults and seniors.
Shawnee Mission Park
Shawnee Mission Park is the largest park in Johnson County, offering over 1,600 acres of scenic beauty, a 120-acre lake, and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. With a marina, beach, off-leash dog park, disc golf course, and picnic areas, it’s a top destination for outdoor recreation and family fun.
Rail Creek Park
Rail Creek Park has long been envisioned as a bike-centric park and, above all, a park that serves the City of Shawnee. Resident surveys done to help create the city’s Achieve Shawnee Comprehensive Plan showed that bike facilities and multi-use trails were a top priority, and the City is responding. “The proposed Rail Creek Park will provide high-quality shared use paths and training areas for bicyclists of a variety of experience levels.”
